On June 21, 2010 Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych met Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij and Secretary-General Stefan Romaniw.

Viktor Yanukovych thanked the guests for initiating the meeting. "I wanted to meet with the leadership of the Ukrainian World Congress, which I consider a leading association of public organizations of the Ukrainian diaspora," said the President.

The Head of State stressed the need to improve cooperation among Ukrainians across the world. "I think that now it is urgent to organize cooperation with you and other leaders of the Ukrainian diaspora to promote respectful image of Ukraine in the world. It is very important. I believe it is our common task," said Viktor Yanukovych.

The President also said that he would like to hear the opinion of Ukrainian diaspora representatives on the life of modern Ukraine and answer their questions. "You know there are a lot of headlines in Ukraine that are interpreted one way or another, but it is important that you heard my view on our future, what needs to be done to make Ukraine stronger and improve people’s lives."

Viktor Yanukovych stressed that relevant measures are already developed and implemented. They are aimed at benefiting the Ukrainian people. "I have a plan that I implement gradually. It can be perceived in different ways, but given the fact that the Ukrainian people elected me and provided me with authority, I try to act according to people’s wishes and in the interests of Ukrainian society," he said.

From his part, Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij thanked Viktor Yanukovych for the opportunity to meet and talk with him after assuming the office of the President of Ukraine and handed him Memorandum on important issues concerning Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora.

During the meeting sides discussed a number of important issues and agreed to continue their dialogue.
